Sadly, our government is not particularly tech savvy, and many members of congress are either mis-informed or just acting on emotions rather than facts. Currently, there is no proof that DJI or any other Chinese company is using the drones that it sells in the US for intelligence gathering.
DJI used to offer a free cloud service to store flight logs and would automatically upload your logs to their cloud. As a reaction to this legislation, DJI has halted this practice.
